How to be Brainy

Did you know that eating oily fish (salmon trout, mackerel, herring and sardine) can mean giving birth to a smarter baby? DHA, (docosahexaenoic acid) an omega 3- fat found in these fish assists with brain development.  Since these fish aren’t widely available worldwide, I’d suggest a good fish oils supplement.  Look for one that contains 500mg of DHA.  And if you needed any more reasons, omega-3 fats are also believed to be a protective factor against premature birth and low birth weight, and can prevent depression during and after pregnancy.  More zinc for bigger and healthier babies.  Of all the nutrients, zinc play the biggest role in reproduction.  It’s needed for all areas of your baby’s growth, from a healthy nervous system and brain development, to bone formation and better energy levels give birth to babies that are heavier and have a greater head circumference.  Get your daily intake from foods such as lamb, ginger, fish, peas, turnips, eggs, almonds and oats.

Cures for Morning Sickness

If you experience morning sickness, see if you can persuade someone else into making breakfast for you, since sometimes it’s simply the cooking smells that make you feel worse.  During the day, eat little and often, rather than skipping meals in the hope that the sickness will go away.  Believe it or not, lack of food can also cause nausea, headaches and other symptoms you are trying to avoid.  In between meals, sip on peppermint chamomile or ginger tea to calm you stomach.

Constipation and common problems during pregnancy

As your baby grows, he or she will press on your abdomen, making it difficult for you to eat a lot and providing less room for digested waste.  Rather than adding bran to a fibre-poor diet, eat plenty of vegetables, lentils and beans.  Oats and brown rice are particularly good.  As you feel better, your baby will feel better too.
